One sultry Summer evening in Fairhope in 1981 the first plans were made; that winter the Fairhope Concerts were inaugurated with performances by the Jubilee String Quartet, Peter and Doris Hansen, and the New Cadek String Trio. Since then, fifty ensembles and forty-seven individuals have played for us in the Whiting Gallery.
This is the twenty-seventh season of a music series rarely found in communities the size of Fairhope. Performers come mainly from elsewhere in the U.S. and abroad. Musicians are hand-selected by the music committee relying on recordings as well as suggestions from concert-goers and other artists. This wide input all helps to ensure a rich variety of chamber music.
Several years ago the Fairhope Concerts instituted a program of informances for the area’s schools. These ‘talk-and-play’ sessions have been grand experiences for children of all ages. Nearly all of the visiting musicians participate in this program designed for both students and teachers.
Such chamber music series are expensive, so we do ask you who are able to become angels, friends or patrons. Some partial funding comes from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, but that does not begin to cover costs. As you read about this season; The artists and music to be enjoyed, please be generous in helping underwrite the series. (View The Concert Schedule )
