Art is what brings many people to Fairhope. The Eastern Shore Art Center sponsors the Grand Festival of Art in October and the Outdoor Art Show in March. In the spring, exhibitors line the street of downtown Fairhope as part of the Outdoor Art Show and the Arts and Crafts Show. The Outdoor Art Show features over 160 local and regional artists, food and a children’s art tent. This three day fine art event in downtown Fairhope attracts over 200,000 visitors from around the country. Shuttle service is available from the corner of Highway 98 and Fairhope Avenue into downtown Fairhope.
The Grand Festival of Art features over 100 booths of top-quality art in an outdoor setting second to none. The event is coordinated by Mary Jane Owen and Gwynn Peterson. Fine artists exhibit their work in the Grand Festival of Art by the Bay which is located down in Pier Park along Mobile Bay in Fairhope. The Grand Festival of Art also offers an excellent chance to meet those who create artwork.
Don’t miss your chance to own works of art by the exhibiting artists. Purchase raffle tickets for $1 each, 6 tickets for $5 or 13 tickets for $10. Over 50 pieces of original art donated by the artists will be raffled. Take the opportunity to stroll through the incredible artwork along the bay and stop by Faulkner Campus, headquarters for the annual Alabama Coastal Birdfest.
Visitors can expect to view around 25 different mediums of original work, including painting, ceramics, graphics, sculpture, photography, stained and blown glass, jewelry and woodwork.
Both the Grand Festival by the Bay and the Outdoor Art Show serve as fundraisers to support ESAC programs throughout the year.
Scores of volunteers, from show chairmen to information booth staffers to breakfast and dinner servers are needed to make these shows happen each year. If you enjoy meeting and working with artists from around the country and being part of one of Alabama’s biggest tourist events, this is a great place for you to become an active member. Hours for both shows are 10-5 daily and admission is free.
